Overall: A sweet and charming romance where both characters have some growth and are emotionally vulnerable with each other. Also the vicar doesn't feel that his homosexuality is a sin, nor that the church sucks.
Content warnings: sexually explicit scenes, death, depression, alcohol
I liked the 'opposites attract' element here, also a bit of grumpy/sunshine. Ben was such a fun and easy going guy! I felt like it was easier to get to know Ben over Phillip.
I really liked that Ben's internal conflict was NOT the immorality or sin of being gay. In fact, his thoughts on what God would approve/allow were interesting to read (and a relief).
Having read the third book already, I didn't feel like Martin was given a fair shake in this book.
My biggest pet peeve of the whole book was the time frame: maybe a month overall. I would have happily read another 50 pages for just a little more time passage and relationship growth!
