1814 promises to be another eventful season, but not, this author believes, for Anthony Bridgerton, London's most elusive bachelor, who has shown no indication that he plans to marry. And in truth, why should he? When it comes to playing the consummate rake, nobody does it better... —Lady Whistledown's Society Papers, April 1814 But this time, the gossip columnists have it wrong. Anthony Bridgerton hasn't just decided to marry—he's even chosen a wife! The only obstacle is his intended's older sister, Kate Sheffield—the most meddlesome woman ever to grace a London ballroom. The spirited schemer is driving Anthony mad with her determination to stop the betrothal, but when he closes his eyes at night, Kate is the woman haunting his increasingly erotic dreams... Contrary to popular belief, Kate is quite sure that reformed rakes do not make the best husbands—and Anthony Bridgerton is the most wicked rogue of them all. Kate is determined to protect her sister—but she fears her own heart is vulnerable. And when Anthony's lips touch hers, she's suddenly afraid she might not be able to resist the reprehensible rake herself...

These really aren’t five star reads, but I kept picturing the “you are the bane of my existence scene” and the scene when he falls into the pond and yeah. That’s it. Head empty ‘cept for Anthony Bridgerton.

Rewatched season 2 and decided to give the book a read (thank god it was on kindle unlimited).

The book and the show are two separate stories involving the same characters. I think the book is better about like not having some weird infidelity but Jonathan Bailey is like perfection…

A good time but not a serious time

Oh, hello fave regency romance novel. This is the 3rd time reading it, but I will write a review this time. I just finished the Bridgerton netflix show and was compelled to reread this because Daphne was so boring, and Anthony was such an ass, and I'm so excited to see him redeem himself!

    Anyway, why 5 stars!?

    - The build up of attraction is gradual, tense, and perfect! None of that overwhelmingly fast lust that is found in so many other books. Anthony starts out by thinking her sister is gorgeous and that Kate is pretty (not as gorgeous) and witty.
    - There's so many scenes that make my chest hurt from the dramatic misunderstandings, or character insecurities being rattled, ETC, and I LOVE IT!!! Kate loves her sister but also has been ignored/underappreciated by every man that enters their orbit, because her sister's beauty and grace! Anthony has a whole host of reasons for avoiding love, and he doens't COMMUNICATE about them. But it's not so cringey that you hate the characters - they generally tell each other in good time.
    - The characters have good chemistry and compatibility. Kate does feel like a special heroine (vs. just a pretty heroine in right place, right time.) She's extremely direct, loves her family dearly, and is pretty funny and smart. And as a result, the conversations between her and the other characters are interesting :) Unlike Daphne...smh

    Ok hope you read it!
