This book caught me by surprise. I was expecting the same thing as the others [present-tense, first person]. This book, and I'm guessing the three others that follow it, is different. This book is past-tense, third person. After spending so long reading present-tense and first person, it was a shock to be reading third person again. Though not a bad one.
I don't think it changed anything about the story though the format made it more inner-monologue heavy.
As I had thought, this book covered an event that was mentioned in Roman's story but it was brief and resolved rather quickly. And took a long time to happen.
This book was only about 289 pages so everything felt rather rushed. As I said before, there wasn't much dialogue. It was longer than Ivan was but felt shorter, maybe because of the limited dialogue.
I still enjoyed this book a lot but I wouldn't say it's a favorite. I am still looking forward to the next books though, even as I can already see that they are numbered in a strange order. For my next read, I may follow the Colors of Crime set order. That seems to follow the timeline. I'm not sure what the reasoning is for the current line-up but oh well. It's still enjoyable.
Now, onto Nikolai. From the synopsis, it's going to be quite fun.
