    This book really surprised me.

When I first picked it up I wasn't expecting to be impressed - it cost 0.00 on Amazon! I wasn't all that into it at first but very quickly, the story really pulled me in. I seriously want to know what's going to happen next and will definitely have to buy the next instalment!

Couple of things though; the characterisations are really quite flat.

Joss and Kael both seem to be love interests and are Jacob and Edward respectively. Neither one of them really developed character-wise and I know absolutely nothing about either of them and no idea why they like Thalia.

Thalia is a bit more kick ass even if she is prone to huffing.

My favourite character is probably the horse.

This book opens with a fairly dramatic prison break scene where Thalia and few others have been kept prisoner and tortured by the Sceptori; an evil cult.

After escaping, Thalia is again rescued by Joss and Darren who then, for reasons known only to the author, take it upon themselves to look after Thalia and her safety seems to become a priority to them.

Taking residence in The Citadel, the outcome of the Sceptori's forbidden experiments come to light when Thalia starts exhibiting special powers. She is put into the Denai training programme when the Sceptori track her down and make multiple attempts on her life.

There is also a bit of an unexpected twist at the end which really made it the most interesting to me!

There were a lot of grammatical mistakes in this book, and it was far worse in the beginning. It was very annoying. There were so many things that bothered me about the character development, as well as things that made me feel like I was reading something else. I did like the story enough to want to see where it's going, but that's about it.
