за рівнем дії на організм ця книжка, мабуть, серед найпотужніших трилерів, що мені траплялися. від неї тремтять руки і з'являється гусяча шкіра. відірватися дуже непросто, хоча іноді стає майже неможливо читати - і справа тут не тільки в самій загадці і знайомстві з монстрами, а в розвитку персонажів. вони змінюються на очах, і часом боляче спостерігати, як ті, хто десять сторінок тому дуже подобалися, розвалюються на шматки і перетворюються на довбану руїну (багатьом читачам це не подобається, бо персонажі обманюють очікування, а мене таке розгортання характерів дуже тішить - вони стають більше схожі на живих людей).
перетворитися на руїну, до речі, просто: треба тільки невиліковну травму з минулого, якийсь катастрофічно незакритий гештальт - і воно за першої ж нагоди саме впорається. на щастя для сюжету, такого добра в персонажів навалом, а здатності з ним розібратися - значно менше.

Wow. This was quite a story. At times, I felt myself having to push myself through parts but it always seemed to hold my attention. Rob (Adam) is on the Murder Squad and along with his partner Cassie the two are unstoppable. When a young girl turns up dead in Rob's hometown though, and he is sent to investigate, his horrifying past catches up with him quickly.

This is true mystery that really gets you into the mind of a deranged killer. I hope that one day I'll find out what actually happened to Adam/Rob and his two best-friends when they were twelve. Overall, if you are looking for a thrill of a read this is it. I have a hard time getting the horrifying images of Katy out of my mind. This read will stick with me for a while! I would caution readers that this by no means an "easy" read; it is challenging on many different levels, but it for sure makes you think throughout.

This book was a bit of a flop for me. I couldn't stand the main character/narrator and found myself grumbling out loud while reading his "reasonings" on why he's acting like a piece of garbage. I just had a hard time listening or sympathizing with someone I disliked so much.
The overall mystery was interesting enough, but crazy slow. The book is only 430 pages but it took me a week to get through. No intention of continuing this series.
