Enjoyment: Quality: Characters: Plot:

Oscar-winning Valeria Sullivan finds herself trapped in a battle of wits with a sexy professor, but can she keep her cool when things heat up in and out of the classroom? At twenty-nine, Valeria Sullivan is a celebrated, award-winning actress. But when her attempt to transition to directing is complicated by a bad interview on a late night show, Val decides she's had enough of Hollywood. Intent on pursuing her other passion, she pours herself into a guest professorship at USC, hoping to transition to academia fulltime. Standing in her way is her co-professor, Maeve Arko, whose brilliance and beauty is matched only by her contempt for Val. As Val rises to the challenges that teaching throws at her, though, Maeve starts to soften, and soon sparks are flying. Now with a job and a girlfriend she adores, Val should be happy. But Hollywood isn't done with Val quite yet. Her directorial debut, Oakley in Flames, starts getting attention, and soon Val has to choose between her obligations to her class—and Maeve—and a burgeoning directing career.

i really liked this one!!! i loved seeing Valeria's storyline.
for some reason, i went into this thinking it was a prequel to Sizzle Reel, when Valeria gets involved with Romy, but it happens after the events of SR, which was proven by the characters and relationships i saw!!

i loved Valeria and Maeve together. i loved the tension, i loved their sizzling chemistry, i loved the good they brought out in each other. it started out as rivals (sort of), or just some general (possibly perceived) dislike, and then as a romance book does, turned romantic. there were things that Maeve and Val were both struggling with--Maeve with her coming out journey, Val with her choice between directing/teaching and her debut film making headway in festivals--and that definitely led to some miscommunication.
and while that was frustrating (as it always is), it was natural and understandable for the situations. there were certainly times where i wanted to reach into the book and shake Val by her shoulders, like GIRL. JUST TELL HER. but i get being nervous and not wanting to give a new relationship reasons to crumble!!

i also loved all of the side characters!! the different dynamics in the book, including teacher-student, led to a lot of great conversations and fulfilling relationships.

    definitely recommend this one!!!
