With the grace of the gentle winds that blew past her and eyes as wide as the picturesque pastures before her, Aleyna rode up and down the slopes of Marj Al Shams on her very own bicycle. This was no ordinary bicycle powered by the sun, but one of those curious relics from another time that needed her to pedal. Still, it worked like a charm, feeling as natural to her as treading water was to the garganeys or burrowing was to the honey badgers she passed. What she didn’t pass, however, were the residents of Southern Lebanon, who seemed nowhere to be found.
