Emily knew there would be strings attached when she relocated to the small town of Willow Creek, Maryland, for the summer to help her sister recover from an accident, but who could anticipate getting roped into volunteering for the local Renaissance Faire alongside her teenaged niece? Or that the irritating and inscrutable schoolteacher in charge of the volunteers would be so annoying that she finds it impossible to stop thinking about him? The faire is Simon's family legacy and from the start he makes clear he doesn't have time for Emily's lighthearted approach to life, her oddball Shakespeare conspiracy theories, or her endless suggestions for new acts to shake things up. Yet on the faire grounds he becomes a different person, flirting freely with Emily when she's in her revealing wench's costume. But is this attraction real, or just part of the characters they're portraying? This summer was only ever supposed to be a pit stop on the way to somewhere else for Emily, but soon she can't seem to shake the fantasy of establishing something more with Simon, or a permanent home of her own in Willow Creek. All's faire in love and war for two sworn enemies who indulge in a harmless flirtation in a laugh-out-loud rom-com from debut author, Jen DeLuca.

My youtube review of this book!
This is a cute story starring Emily, and how Emily grows to realize what she wants from life and also falls in love with a dashing pirate (slash English teacher)!
Emily is a young woman who has temporarily moved in with her sister to help out while her sister is recovering from a car accident, and when her niece wants to participate in the local Renaissance Faire, suddenly Emily is the Faire's newest Tavern Wench. Over the summer as Emily learns how to be the best wench she can be, she is also pondering what she wants to do for a job and slowly realizing how much she likes living in this small town. As the meticulous stickler English teacher in charge of the Faire slowly morphs into his role as handsome pirate, Emily struggles to not fall for his swashbuckling charm.
I read this book as part of contemporaryathon readathon over Memorial Day weekend, and thought this story was super cute! I liked how much time we spent learning about Emily and watching her find her own path--the whole focus of the book was not 100% on the romance. But also, the romance plot line was tender and a nice slow burn.
