Well Met (Well Met, #1)

Enjoyment: 3.0Quality: 1.5Characters: 2.0Plot: 2.0

Emily knew there would be strings attached when she relocated to the small town of Willow Creek, Maryland, for the summer to help her sister recover from an accident, but who could anticipate getting roped into volunteering for the local Renaissance Faire alongside her teenaged niece? Or that the irritating and inscrutable schoolteacher in charge of the volunteers would be so annoying that she finds it impossible to stop thinking about him? The faire is Simon's family legacy and from the start he makes clear he doesn't have time for Emily's lighthearted approach to life, her oddball Shakespeare conspiracy theories, or her endless suggestions for new acts to shake things up. Yet on the faire grounds he becomes a different person, flirting freely with Emily when she's in her revealing wench's costume. But is this attraction real, or just part of the characters they're portraying? This summer was only ever supposed to be a pit stop on the way to somewhere else for Emily, but soon she can't seem to shake the fantasy of establishing something more with Simon, or a permanent home of her own in Willow Creek. All's faire in love and war for two sworn enemies who indulge in a harmless flirtation in a laugh-out-loud rom-com from debut author, Jen DeLuca.

Two people that have met once, at a volunteer-based Ren Faire, declare themselves as enemies for literally no reason, but then fall in love(?).. Yeah I don't think non-dark contemporary romance is for me.

Concept is cute but other than the 'spice' the characters act like young teens at best.

3.5 but I'm rounding up because I'm in the mood to be charmed. It's nothing to write home about, but it gave me some nice romantic fluff when I wanted it, and being exasperated by the authorship question is a pretty sexy trait in a love interest. (but god save me from public declarations of courtship at ren faires, man, I would melt right into the earth.)

    A Fun Romance

This book has been on my TBR for years, I’m glad I read it. I loved Emily and Simon as characters, and the rest of the cast was fantastic as well. Well Met has a plot, but it’s more about the characters for me. I did enjoy the story, but I thought elements could have been better. I’m not someone that considers myself a romance reader, but I’ve been drawn to more and more romances lately. Emily and Simon are sweet as a couple, and I can’t wait to see where the story goes. This is an enjoyable read for anyone who likes romance, or characters who are layered.
