A list of modern (1980-present) stories inspired by the Cosmic Horror genre.

books that i have read or want to read that have autumnal vibes

I’m working my way through these stories of weird fiction, noir, and the unknowable that are direct influences or spiritual ancestors to The Imago Sequence, True Detective season 1, and other modern cosmic horror noir stories.

Reading order and non-book entries listed in comments.

Cosmic horror is hard to define, because it takes several forms. Gods, cults, monsters beyond comprehension, madness, etc... and also wildly different forms (one can argue that the Backrooms and Bloodborne inhabit different sides of a spectrum). I'm setting out to read more, and this is what I have read and still have to read. If a book doesn't qualify, I'll remove it after finishing it.

Lies of P is my favorite video game and I was on the hunt for reads that were similar! There's a few YA sprinkled in here, but I tried to avoid it for the most part. There is one comic here that's for pre-teens... but it fit so perfectly! There's a surprising lack of Pinocchio inspired horror books... 😔 Feel free to drop recommendations! 🧚‍♀️
