Set in fictional Arroyo Blanco, an island in the Spanish Caribbean in 1911. Emilia Cruz is a writer and typist, also writing a scandalous serial under a pen name. Ruben Torres is a visiting writer, also publishing scathing book reviews under a pseudonym. They bicker and banter and end up under water a few times. They eventually make uneasy friends then lovers.
I enjoyed the setting in the HOT Caribbean summer for a historical romance. The story was great. I didn’t catch the Pride & Prejudice similarly until Ruben tries keeping his best friend and Emilia’s sister apart, but it was a delightful surprise.
