USA TODAY BESTSELLER • Lauren Layne brings all the unpredictable heat of Blurred Lines to an all-new cast of characters! Country music’s favorite good girl is hiding away from the world—only to find herself bunking with a guy who makes her want to be a little bad. Jenny Dawson moved to Nashville to write music, not get famous. But when her latest record goes double platinum, Jenny’s suddenly one of the town’s biggest stars—and the center of a tabloid scandal connecting her with a pop star she’s barely even met. With paparazzi tracking her every move, Jenny flees to a remote mansion in Louisiana to write her next album. The only hiccup is the unexpected presence of a brooding young caretaker named Noah, whose foul mouth and snap judgments lead to constant bickering—and serious heat. Noah really should tell Jenny that he’s Preston Noah Maxwell Walcott, the owner of the estate where the feisty country singer has made her spoiled self at home. But the charade gives Noah a much-needed break from his own troubles, and before long, their verbal sparring is indistinguishable from foreplay. But as sizzling nights give way to quiet pillow talk, Noah begins to realize that Jenny’s almost as complicated as he is. To fit into each other’s lives, they’ll need the courage to face their problems together—before the outside world catches up to them.Praise for Good Girl “I couldn’t read this fast enough! This is, so far, my least favorite Lauren Layne novel. At first, I was really enjoying the MCs banter and games, and the obvious attraction, but there were two issues with this book for me: there's a kind of drag after the first third of the novel and things only started to pick my interest again by 80% or so. I think I got tired of the games and them never acting on their feelings. And, obviously, the fact that Noah/Preston was a douche. He was often cruel towards Jenny, and a coward to not face his ex and things once and for all, and often mysoginist as well towards both. So, after a while, I thought that Jenny deserved better and wasn't as invested in the couple.
“I don’t want to belong to anyone but myself. I don’t want to live anyone’s life but my own."
I loved the tale that Lauren unraveled of a country singer and a man who has two sides to him; a CEO named Preston and Noah, who knows his way around building a house.
When Jenny finds her escape in a mansion in Louisiana to get away from the hateful media, she isn't expecting Noah at all; this rude, arrogant man who doesn't know his place in the mansion and assumes he's just the handyman.
Using that assumption to his advantage, Noah (Preston) can't seem to have the time to correct her either, he's too distracted by her snooty behaviour and her dog.
Eventually, the two settle their differences and end up getting together in a "I hate you, but I can't help but feel for you" kind of way.
And the sex is off the charts btws.
I loved it...but I felt like there was something missing. Which is why I'm shocked at my rating. I can't put my finger upon it, but it just felt like it was missing something.
