It’s strange that they refer to one another as pyros, squid etc. as in, it’s a strange narrative choice that wouldn’t work in a non-paranormal book. It feels like some kind of writing crutch and I don’t really like it.

I just realized about the names (Byrnes for the fire character, Aguado for water, Baumann for earth) now I can unsee it and it just feels so flipping obvious.
I think I wouldn’t mind as much if it was consistent, but I think one of the other water characters is “Reyes”.

With the mention of Martin I feel like I have a pretty good sense of how this is about to play out long term. Does anticipation make it easier or harder to continue on the journey?

Before i started reading this book, i said that i wanted to read something that would break me and 50 pages in and tears were already shed.

For 1/3 of this book I wished it was dual POV. By the start of the final third I finally understood that Kumar was taking a big swing with the single POV, and for me it paid off with a Grand Slam. I really loved how I got to understand Nikhil as Meena grew to understand him.

I was surprised to realize how quickly I'm tearing through this book. I'd like to intentionally slow down a bit, because there are moments I really love.
On page 98 - "It had hurt. We were supposed to share everything... there was a whole world inside his mind I couldn't access. The way I shared things with him, the way I leaned on him, was something he wouldn't reciprocate."
I just... slay me.
