Eighteen-year-old Ryohei Arisu is sick of his life. School sucks, his love life is a joke, and his future feels like impending doom. As he struggles to exist in a world that can’t be bothered with him, Ryohei feels like everything would be better if he were anywhere else. When a strange fireworks show transports him and his friends to a parallel world, Ryohei thinks all his wishes have come true. But this new world isn’t an empty paradise, it’s a vicious game. And the only way to survive is to play. The first game starts with a bang, but Ryohei manages to beat the clock and save his friends. It’s a short-lived victory, however, as they discover that winning only earns them a few days’ grace period. If they want to get home, they’re going to have to start playing a lot harder.

SpoilerThe end of the game of tag in the apartment complex

I watched the first couple episodes of the TV show when it first came out and quite enjoyed it, but got distracted before finishing the season. With the release of s2 and the continued love for it, I decided to try out the manga before going back to the show. Honestly, not disappointed at all.

Ryuhei Arisu hates his life, he's doing badly at school and always in the shadow of his super successful younger brother. One day, he fantasises about traveling to a different world, one where he and his 2 friends can be free and live a different life. Shortly after, all 3 find themselves with their wishes granted - albeit not in the way they hoped for. To survive in this new world, the 3 of them must fight in deadly games to extend their life in this new, treacherous world.

The characters are great, the design of the games are also great. I already knew what was going to happen in this due to watching it in the show, but even then the tension and terror came to life easily through the art. Clear, beautifully illustrated scenes.

Highly recommend it! Lives up to the hype around it for sure. And I'm normally one who gets frustrated at hype around manga haha!
