    Enjoyment: Quality: Characters: Plot:

It’s now New Year’s Eve, 1830, in Scotland. Lady Kiera Darby is still mourning the loss of her dear friend, William. Kiera has returned to her childhood home in hopes that the familiar landscape, the company of her brother, Trevor, and holiday festivities at Hogmanay Hall will uplift her spirits. But when the first footing goes awry, a grave is disturbed, bones are stolen, and a caretaker is killed, Kiera finds herself, yet again, in the midst of an inquiry.

Because of their known connection, Kiera is asked to call upon Gage as an inquiry agent. Gage arrives and reveals that this robbery isn’t the first of its kind. But they have to make sure it’s the last.

Kiera’s knowledge of anatomy could make or break solving the case but aiding in another inquiry will only serve to further ruin her reputation. But when has she ever cared about propriety?

The romantic, investigative duo are still setting the pages aflame with their flirting, but now, finally, the two actually define their relationship! And the feelings that the two, obviously, have for one another are delved into a lot more. Gage still has his secrets, but Huber really moves the relationship and the couple forward. Another major development is Kiera!

Sis is not taking anyone’s crap this novel! Before, Kiera was content to just take everyone’s criticism and cruelty in stride, but Kiera gets some gumption and has a truly BOSS attitude now. After being kidnapped multiple times and having to watch helplessly as Will died before, Kiera won’t be a helpless damsel or a victim again; she now carries a pistol and isn’t afraid to use it. When her carriage is hijacked by a notorious crime boss, Bonnie Brock, with an interest in the case, she proves as much: “I lifted my pistol and cocked the hammer for good measure to be sure he knew I was serious.” And I, for one, am all for it.
