Writing and voices from outside of the white Western canon. Fiction and Non-fiction with an emphasis in diaspora, decolonization, global history, and resistance narratives from around the world. Features African, Asian, Central American, South American, Caribbean, and Middle Eastern voices.

Different kinds of non-fiction books about gender, feminism, and related topics. People like black women or neurodivergent women are twice or more marginalised, and often it's not clear whether treatment was due to (for example) skin colour or perceived gender, so I'll add some books about other kinds of marginalisation as well. I haven't read all books (yet); if one is problematic, please tell me so in a comment!

Nonfiction about historical events, people, and places outside of North America & Europe (both contemporary and ancient history).

This list can include nonwestern perspectives within/analyzing western cultures or countries as well (as long as it’s in a historical context).

These are history books about less acknowledged history, of course this tends to happen most with history from non-white, colonised places but has happened in many others too. It is important to draw attention to these issues so that they are not forgotten (non-fiction only)
