Even If We Break

Even though I listened to this book in one sitting, I didn't enjoy it. I couldn't connect with the characters, the game they were playing was quite vague to me, and I thought the overall plot was just too predictable.

Marieke Nijkamp’s Even if We Break is the story of five teens who gather together in a cabin for one final game of LARP or Live Action Role Play. They were once a close knit bunch in the beginning. However, that is not the case when the story begins. The game takes a turn for the worst when one person disappears leaving behind an ominous note and a few blood stains. The story is an easy read. Each character takes turns telling the story from their first person perspective. Fans of horror stories and slasher movies will definitely enjoy this tale. The ending leaves the story open which is probably why other reviews said that the story fell flat. Honestly, the only disappointment is waiting for the killer to come back one last time. Other than that the story is good and worth a read. I rated this tale three stars out of three.

Yeah, there's a reason this book is rated so low on Goodreads.

I see a 3.5 rating on Goodreads and I'm like yikes. I see closer to a 3.0 rating and I'm like YIKES. Something UNDER a three is practically unheard of. So I didn't go in with high expectations. Which is a good thing, because this book sucks.

It's interesting because it's not like I can write out a list of flaws. But it's bad. It's just bad. It was bland, boring, uninteresting. The characters were diverse, which was nice, but they were also boring and blah and the relationships were uninteresting. The slasher was uninteresting. The reveal was uninteresting. Idk it was just bad.
