I currently hate 4 things in life:
1.) This book
2.) Caoimhe Young
3.) Lizzie Young
4.) Hugh Biggs
1.) This book was horrendous. Cringy at best, down right immature at worst. I refuse to believe Chloe Walsh wrote this, it must have been a ghost writer.
2.) I’m going to be really harsh here, but committing you-know-what because you felt guilty for witnessing a grape is the most selfish thing I’ve ever read. And then writing 2 different notes one that was clearly purposefully ambiguous because you were relying on a 12 year old to turn in the “right” one?! Jesus. I can’t even begin to unpack that.
3.) I’m not interested in a redemption story for Lizzie. Even if the events of this book weren’t what happened and what she believed happened had happened, her utter hatred for Gibsie was so out of line, it was incredibly hard to read. Attempting to justify repeated bullying and harassment as “hurt people hurt people is complete gaslighting. Coming from Shannon it made me dislike her to a degree I didn’t know was possible. I should probably add Shannon as no. 3.5 on my hate list because trying to have Claire return to the dance after reading that letter was the absolute dumbest thing she could have done. On top of… why does she like Lizzie? I don’t recall Lizzie doing a single kind thing except hate Johnny the entirety of Shannon’s book. But back to Lizzie, trauma isn’t an excuse for verbally harassing someone for years because of actions you think their stepbrother (who Gibsie made very clear he hated even without us knowing what happened) took. If we see a lot of Joey on Team Lizzie in her book, I’ll DNF. I can’t have his character ruined for me because he jumps on the wrong bandwagon.
4.) Hugh loves Lizzie for some reason which makes me hate Hugh. How he can listen to her constantly bully someone who was supposedly his best friend is beyond me. Chloe Walsh better have a magical pen to somehow make their relationship likable.
