Recs if you like Depart, Depart!...

Reading suggestions for the Trans Rights Readathon! (Any year of course). Books with trans characters of any label (or any non-cis gender identity) by trans/non-cis authors. I have not read all the books in this list. Feel free to name your fave books by trans authors in the comments!

Shorter books (under 200 pages) that are part of at least one quest. Many are also in the public domain, making them easily accessible when you want to grind for that next badge.

I tried to include most books I know or that have been recommended that either have transfem, transmasc or nonbinary main characters. I only add first in series!

Works in the speculative, fantasy, science fiction, and horror genres by authors who are not cisgender! Two spirit, nonbinary, trans, genderfluid, and other gender diverse authors count!

Horror books by trans, Two Spirit, nonbinary, et al authors (may or may not include trans* characters).

As you turn the first page, a wave of dread consumes you. You see a library ticket at the front; 'The Library of Jurgen Leitner'. Who is this man? And why does this book seem to have such a horrible effect on your mind, your body, the world?

(For The Magnus Archives enthusiasts. Suggestions welcome though I may be a bit picky 🤓)

I started this list based on feedback from the community, my sincere gratitude for all the feedback 🙂‍↕️ I got so many replies to a request, I thought they need to be documented for everyone. Will be adding books I read; more recs are always welcome as well. Trans, enby, anyone not cis writing horror stories about not-cis MCs may join these ranks.

Queer stories that are under 200 pages

Not necessarily trans, but may feel trans, have a trans author, trans allegories, you get the picture. I haven't read a lot in my adult life, so this may be for those boys too who haven't. Definitely open to suggestions to add to the list!
