Recs if you like Sorcery & Cecelia: or The Enchanted Chocolate Pot (Cecelia and Kate, #1)...

JK Rowling is a bigot who uses her platform to hurt transfolks and other marginalized groups (plus she literally just quoted Mein Kampf on the bird site). If you're still supporting her in 2025, don't bother talking to me.

whether it's straight-up Jane Austen retellings, set in an alternative regency-era England, or a whole new world that has those prim and proper vibes, these books all introduce magic, spells, and perhaps even a bit of whimsy into the familiar regency setting (may also contain Victorian or Gregorian-era like fantasy novels, since they can have a lot of overlap in vibes!)

less of the usual culprits if you please!

A collection of books that are or feel like historical romance and from a time long past, with elements of magic, whimsy and fantasy!

(open to suggestions!)

Novels that feature magical correspondence, the magical people who write them, the magical post offices that deliver them, and everything in between.

Epistolary delivery: Books told in the form of letters, journals, diaries, texts, logs, etc...

Fantasy which exists within the confines of an elaborate hierarchical society, often with lots of rules attached. Lots of crossover with historical fiction and historical fantasy; might be good for fans of Austen, Wilde, &c!

please read something that isn't hp and don't give that lady money. alternatively, if you know of someone who says they like fantasy but their shelves are only filled with white guys, suggest one of these! (I've only added books I have read so if something isn't on there that you think should be lmk)

...and other historical fantasies! If in a series, first book included only.
