books about the second world war that investigate race, class, and gender and/or the human cost of the war. these aren’t the pop history books you buy your dad for christmas, i promise.
primarily (but not exclusively) academic history books read during my history MA program! consequently some may be a bit dense and/or dry.

will mostly contain books about historical events and will span from the 20th to the 21st century. It will include many countries, not just the Western ones, so if possible, recommendations would be great!

Jewish Nonfiction Around the World
Academic and non-academic non-fiction by Jewish authors about Jewish topics, with an emphasis on content outside the US, about non-Ashkenazi minhagim, Jews of colour, and historical subjects other than the Shoah. A few books may have non-Jewish co-authors or authors, but I'll try to limit them as much as possible.
