From international movie releases, live-action adaptations, and instantly recognisable titles, these are the mangas to read if you want to sound like you know what you're talking about. Mainstream? They serve as a contrast to today's norms and standards and might reflect one's own journey of emotional growth.

Inspired by the popular in the 00s list, I wanted to make a list cataloguing all the manga I owned in high school. Please read to the tune of Somebody That I Used to Know by Gotye.

I have read several shojo manga as a teen that now as an adult make me go "... problematic 😬". The manga on this list I can enjoy and recommend as an adult. While there's usually a romance (or several), there's also deeper themes such as absent parents and grief - check CWs just in case. You're welcome to leave recs in the comments! (I will read them before I add them, so it might take time, but I will check out anything you throw at me.)
