Recs if you like The Rage of Dragons...

Representations of the Black experience through fantasy, science fiction, and speculative fiction. Recommendations welcome!

I've noticed most fantasy lists are saturated with YA and romantasy books, but some of us crave adult high-stakes adventures. If you enjoy epic stakes, deep characters, and majestic world-building (without the distraction of romance) this list is for you. For series, I've only added the first book. 📖

Fantasy settings based on African geography, cultures, folklore, myths, legends, or histories — inspired by the Quest with Asian stories of this kind. Suggestions welcome!

this is your reminder to read books by Black authors all month, all year, every year— not just during Black History Month. it’s crucially important to be able to diversify your reading and your bookshelves. expand your mind, your perspectives, your knowledge, and your taste. if you don’t know where to start, here are some recommendations!

Fiction has always been where truth hides. Across horror, thriller, literary fiction, fantasy & mystery every book on this list has something to say about power, who holds it, who destroys it, and how it reproduces itself.

Books in this list are in at least two quests. Thus helping to earn more badges. Books will span different genres. Once I scan through all the quests, I plan to further organize the list. I am thinking of creating a seperate list and moving the books with three or more quests to the new list and keeping the two badge books in this list. Are there other ways you would organize a list this big?

I know there are a couple other dragon lists out there, but a lot of them were missing some of my favourites, so I'm just making my own!

These books the dragons will play a significant role in the plot, even if the focus of the book isn't dragons themselves (like the Hobbit).

For books in a series, I'll only be adding the first one.

Feel free to drop suggestions! I'm trying to include all the dragon books I can.

A compendium of books featuring dragons

If we are going to do Qwordy's the Hardest Reading Challenge You'll Ever Do 3.0 - we should probably get some Pagebound badges along the way! I'm specifically going to be adding books from Quests and readalongs that I think matches at least one of these cover prompts: craft, food, motion, biomes/landscapes, animals, weather.

Combo of new and older fiction written by talented Black and African writers ranging from adult to YA to middle grade. Thriller, fantasy, literary fiction and everything in between!

Feel free to make suggestions!

Epic fantasy where battles, survival, and legacy drive the story. Love may exist in the background, but here it’s war, quests, and struggles that take center stage.

Get on the hype train for these upcoming releases of books in a series. Now is the perfect time to jump on board a new series or start a re-read.

Covers the next 12 months. Updates once a month - please send recs

Change to list view and sort by author for easier browsing.

I will list the first book in the series and the upcoming book. I'm not including series from romances where it's hard to tell if the books are standalone or not (for my health🙃).

(I'm already questioning my sanity on how I'm going to maintain this, I wish we could make collaborative lists on here 😭)

High stakes, stressful fantasy books that will have you pulling at your hair and biting your nails most of the time. In summary: the very opposite of cozy fantasy. Open for recs!

DISCLAIMER: I haven't read some of these books, so do let me know if a book is unfit for this list!

Just an absolute butt-tonne of dragon books, baby!!

Bored of fantasy books that are loosely set in Medieval Europe? Me too. Here are some epic, adventurous, mythological, dark, and spellbinding fantasies set in ancient worlds outside of Europe.

Dragons everywhere. From tiny, mischievous hatchlings to wise, ancient sky-soarers, these books are packed with scales, sparks, and heart. Expect warmth, wonder, and at least a little fire.

Fantasies that take inspiration from Africa and/or African Countries (myths, setting, etc.)

Books where violence, anger, and revenge are central themes.
