really neat list! if youâre taking recommendations, i immediately thought of The Goblin Emperor by Katherine Addison. language plays a huge role in its worldbuilding.
Out of curiosity, in what way does language play a role in its worldbuilding?
this is mainly based on what i can remember off the top of my head, but the book is centred around an elven language created by Addison. it's very detailed but includes pronouns (such as the royal "we") and distinctions to indicate hierarchy/class as well as a pretty extensive list of prefixes/suffixes and titles relevant to the books society. it also utilizes old English.
I think I'll need to read this at some point to see for myself đ Thanks!
ofc i hope you enjoy if you get around to it!
a deadly education by naomi novik is another one with a language focus! just finished the trilogy and it was pretty good! đ
i'll look into it, thanks!
This isnât necessarily sci-fi but kind of meets that weird linguistics vibe of âwhat the hell is going on?â âThe Centreâ by Ayesha Manazir Siddiqi
It looks really cool, but it also looks like more of a thriller? I'd prefer to keep the focus of this list on SFF.
Yea itâs more thriller but thought Iâd put it on your radar!
