How did you like the Brian Herbert books?? Do you think they are worth reading if I loved Frank Herbert’s specific style?

DO NOT READ THEM. DO NOT. Frank Herbert is a genius. Brian Herbert slapped his name on the books and thought that would make it good. IT DID NOT. I disliked Hunters, and I absolutely HATED Sandworms. The characters are horrible, the plot is so insanely contrived, and they are ridiculously long for no reason. They claim to have used Frank’s plans for Dune 7, but by the end of Sandworms, it’s very clear that they did not. I can’t speak for Kevin J. Anderson’s writing style, per se, but these books do the original six books soooo dirty. I would NOT recommend if you liked Frank’s writing style, unfortunately.

That is very much what I thought it would be šŸ˜… I wanted more Dune so I read a small excerpt from book 7 and wanted to vomit so I never gave it a shot. I saw that you had read them and figured I’d at least get another opinion.

Oddly, Chapterhouse: Dune kind of ends in a way that’s a send off? God Emperor of Dune is my favorite sci-fi book ever, but I think Heretics of Dune is severely underrated! It feels so fresh, new, and the most ā€œadventure-ishā€ of any of the books besides the first imo. Chapterhouse was still great (albeit a bit slow), but the ending was phenomenal!

YES I love God Emperor, my favorite of the series, also probably my favorite sci fi. I also enjoyed Heretics, but I missed the original characters.

I missed them as well, but Miles Teg, Odrade, and the newest iteration of Duncan Idaho were all very good for such a big time jump! I loved how the themes of God Emperor carried over after so many years.

Yesss, such great characters as well.
