These books are about the partition that took place between Pakistan and India in 1947. Some were recommended through a video by rozanawithrida on Instagram. I haven’t read any of these personally, but have seen the TV drama Dastaan that was inspired by the book Bano. I’ve personally heard family stories about the partition and its many difficulties and heartbreaks, and created this list with a hope to learn more

not sure if pagebound has them as separate entries but Toba Tek Singh and Khol Do by Manto (and I'm sure many others but these are the ones I've read) are also to do with the aftermath of the partition.
Oh interesting! I’ll look into them, thank you!
I haven't gotten to it quite yet, but Independence by Chitra Banerjee Divakaruni is another book about partition with pretty good reviews (4.11 on Goodreads)! I just got a copy of it earlier this month, and am planning on getting around to reading it in January.
Ooh I’ll add it
Fantastic collection! I'm definitely planning on reading them. I tried watching the drama Dastaan but it was personally too emotionally devastating for me to actually watch it in full. might watch it one day
Oh I felt the same way, I only watched half of Dastaan and cried so hard. I randomly watched scenes from the latter half of the show. I think the drama was all the more devastating because they included real newsreels throughout the show. There was also another Pakistani drama called Jo Bichar Gaye that was made in 2021 about the partition of Bangladesh and Pakistan. Admittedly I know much less about that topic but it was still an interesting drama
