Not sure how I feel about George being the "dead" child and Marie's half sister 😭 It feels like an unnecessary detail that doesn't really add much to the story, and like the author wants to connect every character in a deeper way, when the characters already had their own connection through their history together.
I can see how this can also be interpreted as a power move, the legitimate child and that was actually born into a rich family but then abandoned to the brothel is the one that ends up thriving in he end, while everyone else dies miserably, but I think there was also some beauty to us not knowing George's origin and, despite everything she had to go through and every hardship she had to face, she still finds her place in the world, is comfortable in her own skin and gets to live a content life.
