THE SEVEN LOVELY SINS—
I nearly DNF at this chapter, because I haven’t been loving this book but the white feminism was especially stark in this one. The mixed girl^1 symbolizes wrath? The Chinese girl symbolizes greed (specifically through being good with numbers)?
Even the French girl being associated with lust is a stereotype, and I’m sure the others are too and honestly I haven’t read much satire so maybe that’s the point but if it is I am not into it. It adds nothing to the actual story unless they come up later and this is somehow important, and whether it was the intent or not it just serves as unnecessary reinforcement of negative stereotypes.
^1 typically used to describe either someone of indigenous or black descent, especially because the next one specifies half-Chinese instead of saying mixed-race. I am mixed-race myself and this is of course not always the case. That being said, almost all POC have negative stereotypes of violence attached to them, so in any case I do view this to be harmful.
