Book Recommendations

If there are any works missing from this quest that you think should be added, please comment them below. I will be prioritizing new releases and books published after 2015, so I would appreciate if you note the publication year in your comment. Additionally, just because you recommend a book does not guarantee I am going to add it. With that in mind, I would suggest framing your recommendations as recs for other users—including details about the topic, type of poetry, and why you think people might like it is much more community-minded than just commenting a title and author. It also assists me in determining what books would be a good fit for this quest!

You can find a public shelf on my profile of all recommended books: any books commented here will go in that shelf for me to check out when I have time. I encourage you to use 🔗that shelf and my 🔗shelf of excluded books as resources for further reading, if you’re interested! Thank you in advance for your recommendations!💛

Here are the recommendation guidelines in bullet points for ease of reference😉

Criteria:

  • Fictitious* narrative poetry, novel-in-verse, or epic poem
  • Young adult (13-18) or general adult
  • If a single poem, more than 500 lines (preferably more than 1000)
  • Prioritizing new releases and works published in the last 10 years (but feel free to rec older pieces)
  • Preferably focusing on a topic that is not already highlighted (ex. It is unlikely I will be adding anything more on Greek mythology)
  • No repeat authors
  • Only the first of a series will be added

How to recommend a book:

  • Double check quest criteria above!
  • Ensure your rec is not already in the quest, in a comment here, or in either of my public shelves linked earlier in this post
  • Comment directly on this post
  • Include title, author, publication year, and (preferably) a few sentences about the book (i.e. format, topics, why you like or dislike it, why you think it would be a good fit for the quest)
  • Treat your recommendation as a rec for the community! (If you have a book that you don't think meets the criteria for this quest, but you still think users in this quest would enjoy it, then share it!! Just make sure to put a disclaimer for my sake😄)

*As a reminder, I use the word “fictitious” delicately. In case you missed it, you can read more about my intention in the 🔗Quest Intentions and Curation post. I do not anticipate the line between fiction and reality to be a big issue with more modern recommendations, but please keep it in mind when sharing your recs!
