this chapter was so moving. i felt that it showed us that Dantes’ humanity has not yet been entirely swallowed – as he says, “this is the first time for many years that I have been able to forget my troubles.”
though i wonder if he is cautious about allowing himself too much happiness, lest he be distracted from his revenge plot.
