I think part of the reason I’m not hooked by the chapters of Zelu’s novel is that it feels like there’s a lot of just being explicitly told stuff instead of having it organically revealed to us. Maybe that’s a deliberate choice by the author to say something about Zelu as a writer, or maybe it’s just because those chapters only make up a small portion of the book (so far), but it’s just making it more difficult for me to get into her writing.
