Okay so first of all, this is my personal favorite when it comes to classic. The first I ever read and the only one I find myself reading again for the sake of enjoyment. As im writing this its been five years since I first read it.
From my point of view this is such a masterpiece of a book. The characters are intricate, there's not really a good guy or bad guy in that sense. Everyone is human, and humans have many dimensions to them. My personal favorite parts of the book must be the constant pain and mental pressure Raskolnikov is dealing with. He knows he did wrong and its plauging him. Deep down he knows the act was vile and despicable. Still he finds a way to justify it to himself. As the book progresses he slowly loses it more and suddenly everyone must know right?!
I found it refreshing with a book that won't try to make you love the character. He is a bad person afterall! But I also loved the entire Sonya part and how he suddenly after finally confessing to his crime, could feel for her. He wasnt just a bad person, there was good to him and he was going to serve his punishment and be better for her. Not the most romantic books maybe, but so awfully human.
