I looked to the side, and there in the swirling shadows I saw someone sitting on my bed. A shifting image of a person--yet as I looked at them, my nostrils suddenly swam with an achingly familiar aroma.
Clothes. Old clothes and gowns and dresses, stored in an old closet, where all was close and dark, and all was safe.
In chapter 9, Din talks about going to hide in the closet with his mother's old clothes. The person his memories manifested as must surely be his mother! But why? I wonder if he was close to her? Or if it is the grief of losing her? It broke my heart a little that he's recognized her but hasn't named her yet, like he's avoiding it 💔
