I am having a physical reaction to the writing every few pages, are you KIDDING me with this???
“The music rushed on, human music. The colors of the room flamed for an instant as if the whole world would melt. The hunger sharpened. It was no longer an idea. My veins were throbbing with it. Someone would die. Sucked dry in less than a moment. I cannot stand it, thinking of it, knowing it’s about to happen, fingers on the throat feeling the blood in the vein, feeling the flesh give, give it to me! Where? This is my body, this is my blood.”
Visceral, erotic, subverting Christian tropes, the sense of movement, of urgency, of desperation. And on the page before, the description of Lestat moving through a huge crowd of people at this ball, awash in their humanity. A part but apart. Absolutely unmatched gothic vibes.
