I’m not sure I love that the author is insinuating that tomatoes finally became an important food when they made their way to Europe, as if they weren’t a major element of dishes in the New World for hundreds of years prior. Sure we get some brief mention of their use by Aztecs and Mexicans, but that is more of an anecdote.

I am interested in learning how they became such a big deal in Europe though, especially considering how much people hated them when they were first introduced.
