had to read this for school. SO GLAD i had to read this for school. books like these are so important right now. making connections to history is so important right now. i only had a few tiny very occasional issues with the writing.

I've just barely started but the style reminds me of Homegoing by Yaa Gyasi, which is phenomenal and one of my all-time favourites, so I'm excited. I love the way the writing flows. I was in a bind regarding my next read -- so glad I picked this one!
