Like the title says. Who is your favorite character from Romeo and Juliet? Mine is Benvolio.

I'm trying so hard but I cannot for the life of me get into this, like I am not enjoying it at all.

So sick and tired of the self-serving logic of "market competitiveness" and "inevitability" and "someone worse than us will beat us to it" and "scaleability." None of these are unquestionable forces of nature, morally neutral, or even said in good faith.
AI developers justify the need for AI by saying "trust us, it will be so great it will save everyone" with no proof or actual analysis of potential costs or dangers. In fact, it Open AI "must" develop AI faster than Google so that such dangerous tech is not controlled by a tech giant. (Or, you know, so that Sam and his billionaire buddies miss out on the opportunity to have such powers and money themselves).
Once a product is out, the arms race accelerates, and provides justification for even more suppression of ethical objections and research and for cutting costs. They use horrific, biased data. They engage in extremely unethical practices to scrape data off of the internet. They suppress their own researchers' findings about the huge environmental costs. The justification? "We're more energy efficient than those other guys." Huh?
At the same time, everyone keeps feeding us the same bullshit. "We're a non-profit," "we must continue to ask hard questions about the impact (as they fire a researcher who asked too hard of a question LMAO)." What a scam.
