Do you cast them as actors or other characters from movies/tv/video games/etc? Do you picture friends/family members/people you know irl? Do you come up with an entirely new person based on the character descriptions? Are they just formless blobs? Something else or a combo?

For me, usually characters are just formless blobs since I’m terrible at visualizing things. Sometimes though I’ll somehow associate a character with a movie, tv, or video game character. I say “somehow” because I don’t usually know why tf my mind decides who to cast LOL for example, I’m reading Starling House by Alix E. Harrow right now and shortly after Arthur first appeared (who is a man who has lived in a strange house all by himself and never leaves or interacts with anyone in town, and is a bit cold and disinterested to the main character when she met him), my brain somehow decided to picture him as Freaky Fred from Courage the Cowardly Dog, which if you haven’t seen this guy, he looks like this:

Which… I don’t think is accurate to Arthur at all but that’s what my brain decided so that’s what he looks like to me now 🤷‍♀️

I also pictured a character from Bunny by Mona Awad as Norman from Gravity Falls briefly before he suddenly became Leon Kennedy from Resident Evil?? Brains are weird lol

Anyway, curious to see how you all visualize your characters!

When reading a book, I like to imagine where it currently falls on the star scale based on how I'm liking it so far, then adjusting depending how the story/characters/themes progress (a funny pieces of dialogue—add a star to the rating.... Pacing too slow? Minus half a star, etc.). Often if I'm feeling like 2 stars or less by 50%, I'll DNF Someone told me that I'm jumping the gun and biasing my own final rating by doing this! Does anyone else rate books like this or does everyone else not think about the rating until the very end???

Is there a page/percentage point that if a book doesn't have your attention by now it probably won't, or something specific that makes you go NOPE?

I am about 40% into Gentlest of Wild Things (by Sarah Underwood) and frankly, I just don't really care about the story or the characters still unfortunately 🙃

I've only ever DNF'D one book and even then I read until over 70% when I first considered DNFing at just 30% 😅 That felt like an accomplishment though because I need conclusions and tend to read to the end just in case it gets better, or to find out if I was right about something. I know I need to work on that though, my TBR is way too long to read books I'm not enjoying lol, but at what point should the decision to DNF be made? What is your DNF point or criteria? Help a girl grow a DNF backbone 😭

Hello, fellow Pagebounders! I've been in the mood for this type of book for a bit now but wasn't sure how to look for them. Do any of you have any recs for MLM enemies to lovers books? Big bonus points if they're romantasy, but it's not a necessity. Not rivals to lovers, but honest and good enemies to lovers (I know they're sometimes used interchangably in tags haha).
