It's interesting to me that, when the father son duo encounter the 'bad guys' it describes the male slaves as pulling the carts. The women as being pregnant and the male slaves as collared, like dogs, as well as being tied to one another. To me this seems like a deeper humiliation to the men, while what the women are subjected to as a sort of normal or expected trama. They are not farther described than pregnant. Maybe I'm looking too closely but it seems a bit weird to me
