So first off, trigger warnings for abuse. It is more explicit than I was expecting but it also doesn't go as far(thankfully) as it seemed like it was going to.
I really enjoyed Cherry and Rueben together for the most part. I liked her strong, independant and self-assuredness. Rueben was okay for the most part, but he was more of the soft, needing to find his confidence and who he is, which is understandable considering his family situation. But I felt the romance was rushed. I have a hard time in general believing that people can fall in love that fast and she didn't make it believable here either.
This book is sex heavy and the plot, although there was some, didn't get developed out. And because Hibbert focused so much on the sex scenes, the conflict and resolve and the whole rescue situation felt even more unrealistic and rushed than it would have been if it had been given the time it deserved.
I can't speak on the sex scenes themselves, but it was a bit too much for me. Someone more familiar with BDSM and who has read this book, please let me know how well you think the author did? I will say, him calling her "good girl" bothered me a little. I do not mind sex in my romances, sometimes I can enjoy them, but I do need the plot/relationship development to be the main point of the book. It does seem her earlier books leans towards erotica and that is okay, but not something I would typically reach for myself.
If you have read the Brown Sister trilogy, as I had, and were wanting to read her backlist I would go into them knowing that she leans towards sex being the plot and not the relationship. I hope she has or will be publishing more books because I loved the Brown Sister books and if she wrote more of that type of romance, I would be more enthused!

There are many essays talking about the intersections of disabilities and other aspects that are oppressive. And in the last essay Disability Solidarity it talks about how within the Black Lices Matter movement it ignored the Disabled/Deaf folks in their communities and at times while fighting for them erasing their disability.
I also think of the essay before this when it talks about the climate crisis and how disabled and queer folks get left behind and yet these communities will come together in crises to help each other.
My frustration with how things are currently is how easily people stopped caring once our government told us that the pandemic was over. Without fact checking. Without realizing or possibly even caring that it was a lie. Disabled, immune compromised and elderly people are continuing to be sacrificed. Again being left behind and erased from the conversation. This isn't just about lives, it is also about the environment. We are destroying our planet while destroying our health and those around us. Masks are a easy tool to make sure everyone who needs and desires can be in public spaces. Masks assure that people who cant wear masks are protected. Masks lowers significantly your own personal exposure rate and 100% protects others from being exposed by you. Covid itself is a disabling disease. We should not want to harm ourselves and others yet we allowed that lie appease us for what? Our personal comfort? I could and would never be comfortable with the knowledge that I was causing harm in any way when I had the tools and ability to not do so. I also find it frustrating how people who claim to be fighting against abelism etc were one of the first to drop wearing a mask. Whether or not you believe the pandemic is over, it is fact that illness(not just covid) significantly dropped when wearing masks. We are seeing previously dormant viruses coming back(like the measles) because we are allowing this virus to continue to spread(and mutate becoming stronger in different variants) and is also harming our planet. Please, if you want to be intersectional in your fight, and are able, if you want to help people to feel safer in public spaces(and not continously cause harm to self) please wear a mask. It is not too late.
Just a thought i saw someone speak yesterday on how her cardiologist said that if she was exposed and got covid she would die. She cannot afford exposure and because od that even going to the er or doctors office is a risk that she cannot afford to take. And with my own parents, one immune compromised the other elderly and both at risk, it is always there, will we be exposed today and if so will I have my parents?

What do you think is the reason for why the author will at times use quotation marks for when they are speaking and at other times, not using them? Because I find it interesting and confusing...it doesn't really take away from the reading, but I don't know what the purpose is for.
