I do not even know where to start.
I liked Legendborn, but I strongly dislike Bloodmarked; however, despite my negative opinion of Bloodmarked, I still wanted to give Oathbound a chance. After all, I did like the first book in this series. In retrospect, I shouldn’t have.
All my disappointments from the second book were present in the third. Useless descriptions that take too long, slow pacing, the lack of story development, the lack of evolution in the protagonist/characters—the list goes on…
But the cherry on top for me was the Bree glazing. Throughout the entirety of the book, we are told how important and incredible she is, but very little was shown. It is not enough to tell me; you MUST show me with concrete evidence, not just words from a bunch of teenagers who don’t know any better because they are teenagers.
As much as I enjoy Mariah, I did not like all the Bree glazing from her. Bree makes rash decisions most of the time without thinking of the actual consequences of her actions. This is not a model that they should follow, nor praise. She has her heart in the right place, but the rest does not follow, mostly because she was transported to a world she has barely any knowledge of, and because she is a teenager, not an adult. I mean, we are glazing a character who thought she could play in the face of a demon king and somehow trust his words. Like, why are you surprised he lied to your face, Bree? He’s the literal devil. Hello? If anything, it shows that she is immature, which is normal due to her age, but most importantly, the lack of adult figures that can be trusted. It was already an issue in Bloodmarked, and it is still a problem in Oathbound. WHERE. ARE. THE. ADULTS?! Why are these teenagers by themselves?! Why does the main character feel more secure by the side of a literal demon king?!
For the rest, the different points of view were useless for the most part. The romance, we could have done without. The plot twists were quite predictable. This book is way too long for what it’s worth. It was mostly filler and no real evolution of the story.
I don’t think I will read the last book when it comes out.
