“Because that’s how this industry works. Publishing picks a winner, someone attractive enough, someone cool and young, and oh we’re all thinking it, let’s just say it… diverse enough”
I literally sat up in my bed. I knew what this book was and I still wasn’t prepared lol. This PERFECTLY captures the current feelings in publishing right now. A lot of white writers get on the internet and cry that nobody is reading their books because they’re not a PoC or from a marginalized community. Is there probably a push for more diverse books? Sure. But that comes after it took publishing hundreds of years to realize we have good stories too!! And even then most of traditional publishing is still white men. Weird it’s always “how come they got it and I can’t?” Instead of “what can i improve to earn it?” Assuming we got handouts instead of working twice as hard 🙄
