At this point, Iāll read anything James Islington writes. After loving The Will of the Many, I was especially excited to see him step into science fictionāand Scion did not disappoint.
As someone who leans more toward sci-fi than fantasy, this one hit a really fun sweet spot. Itās not as dense as his Hierarchy series, but itās fast-paced, engaging, and layered with just enough mystery to keep me hooked the entire time. I found myself constantly trying to piece things together alongside Azure, and that sense of discovery made it hard to put down.
And now⦠weāve reached a crossroads. The kind that leaves you staring at the page, already thinking about what comes next. Iām fully invested in Azureās journey and canāt wait to see the choice aheadāand what it means for everything moving forward.
If this is James Islington branching into sci-fi, I am absolutely here for it

Volume 2 of The Mafia Nanny continues to pull me in with its intriguing mix of mystery and character dynamics. Iām especially invested in Davinaās storyāI really want to know what happened to her family, and that question alone is enough to keep me turning the pages.
Iām also curious to see where things go for Gabriel and Mikey. Their storyline adds another layer of tension and heart that makes the series even more engaging.
Overall, this was an enjoyable installment that deepens the mystery and keeps me wanting more. Iām definitely looking forward to seeing how everything unfolds in the next volume.

I went into Guarded by the AI completely blind, not realizing it leaned heavily into explicit content. At first, I was really into itāthe concept of a team of monsters helping others was fun and engaging, and the AI romance felt fresh and intriguing.
As a librarian, Iāve been especially interested in how AI is being used in creative spaces, so I appreciated the transparency upfront about how much of the book was written with AI. That was a really interesting touch, and I liked knowing that going ināespecially with an AI character playing such a central role.
However, as the story progressed, it shifted much more toward explicit content than I expected. While I can appreciate some spice, this became too graphic for my personal taste and ended up overshadowing the parts of the story I was most enjoying.
Overall, I think this book has a unique and creative concept, especially with its use of AI, but the level of explicit content just wasnāt the right fit for me. If you enjoy very spicy, unconventional romance, this might work for youābut I would definitely recommend going in knowing what to expect.
