I’ve heard really good things about this book from my friends, right? And I liked the first couple of paragraphs. I’m a little worried tho since some people were giving it lukewarm reviews on here. I like fantasy, romance, and adventure which this book seems to encapsulate, but am I setting my expectations too high? Lemme know so I dnf when I want to and don’t push through thinking it’s going to get better.

Bro, I will tolerate so much more crap in a book I’m reading on vacation than a book I’m reading at other times. I’m giving 4 stars to books I would normally give like a two. Like if it’s vacation then it’s my time to waste so I can read mid books but if it’s like I only have a couple of hours to read for myself I’m like NO YOU TRASHY MALE LEAD I DONT HAVE TIME FOR THIS GIVE ME PLOT.

It’s been a minute… but I know yall know the drill. What’s a complaint (no matter how big, small, silly, serious, dramatic, ridiculous, etc) that you need to SHOUT TO THE VOID 🗣️

Pagebounders, I'm curious to know do you have any pre reading rituals? Something you do everytime to prepare for your reading time? I usually have to clean my glasses (they always end up dirty somehow?), get my water bottle (because I only drink water during the day if I have it right beside me) and if I'm in a mood for snacks I get one of two. 🙃 Tell me what's yours!

The Silent Patient was an okay book. Not great, but not truly terrible either. Starting off with the bad stuff, the characters for me were just so unlikable to the point of being unbearable. The women were written terribly and the MC viewpoint and thoughts reflect this. I left this book with zero sympathy with any of the characters or their journeys. On the other hand, the atmospheric writing in this book was really on point. The author uses tools like weather and climate to really emphasize the atmosphere. Some may say this book drags, but I found that the pacing was deliberately slow to make you feel uncomfortable and sit with the story. Definitely a mystery tho, not really a psychological thriller which I originally came to this book for. I personally found the plot predictable, but I won’t say anything more to prevent spoilers. To summarize, this book is just really mid. I read it once, probably will never touch it again.

If you need a break from reality, My Roommate Is a Vampire is an excellent choice. The character dynamics are adorable and the plot is generally low stakes. It really is everything you could want from a cozy romantasy. Happy reading!
