I couldn't put this down. Easily some of the best written fight and battle scenes I've read. Perfect blend of pace and description. If you enjoyed Red Rising this is an absolute must, very similar vibes while solidly being it's own book. Also if you're a fan of good school/training arc that's basically the entire book (and it was not a bad thing in the slightest)

I’m in a major reading slump. Nothing I pick up feels right. Give me your favorite Fiction read of the last few months! Any genre, I read them all. I also love audiobooks so any suggestions for those too.

So I described the general plot of the story to my partner and they asked me "wait, are you rereading Red Rising?" 😂 Don't get me wrong I'm enjoying the book, the world and magic are original, but (so far) the plot is basically lower class suffers great loss at hands of upper class, goes to fighting school to aquire skills (and legal ability) to seek revenge. The main character feels somewhere between Darrow (from red rising) and Rin (from The Poppy War).

Just wanted to jot down that this is around when the book really hooked me. The first 20% is a pretty dense with world and information that you will only half grasp, but I'm locked in now 🤓

The consequences of swapping a baby with a fairy. A story about loneliness, friendship, family and the overwhelming weight of responsibilities we often create for ourselves. The book pulls from many familiar fantasy ideas but in its own well written and original way. I struggled with the pacing. It's quite slow for such a short story and ends fairly suddenly. (Honestly about 50% of the way through the book, I thought to myself, if this were a full length novel I'd probably stop reading 😂) I am glad I finished it though. The ending (however abrupt) was beautiful.

There is nothing objectively wrong with the book. I'm just bored, I'm more than halfway through and I don't really feel like much has happened. It won the Hugo so I'm assuming something's going to really grab me in the next 50 pages? I don't normally struggle with something this short...

It's a solid rom-com. Low stress, a little predictable but enjoyable and engaging. Oh and love interest is a huge bull man which left me delightfully uncomfortable and confused. Would recommend 😀
