CJ Cherryh’s foreigner series has me in a chokehold with its tight political intrigue, dynamic characters, and incredible worldbuilding. This third book offered deeper insight into the atevi world which I very much enjoyed (Cherryh is so sparing with details on how things look or work sometimes in earlier books which is hard for the fan artist in me) and I love following my favorite neurotic paidhi as his relationship with the Atevi and human around him changes with his own understanding of himself and the Atevi world.

“Banichi and Jago, both of whom he regarded in that spot humans kept soft and warm and vulnerable in their hearts” Awww I love how much he’s accepted this reality since book 1- he can’t resist his human urge to pack bond! And he’s real for that!
