I still remember the first time I read this book in high school. It was for the Summer reading program. This book really helped me deal with the mental and emotional struggles I was having in high school. Every now and again I do like to pick up this book and read it, however my copy needs to be replaced, but I found it on auto and it still has been the best book I’ve ever been able to relate to. If you are somebody who is able to relate to girl interrupted, this book is definitely for you. It might even replace that book for you.

I started out so excited for this book. The first four chapters had me wanting to not put down the book because the world building was great. Then chapter five began and it was downhill from there. It felt as though the author was trying to make plots happen to fit the mold of the story as opposed to letting one focus flow to the next. Another issue I had was that it seemed like she took dystopian ideas from Hunger Games, Divergent, and several others to fill in areas of the plot for filler that made the story not flow and unnecessary. This book and series was not for me.

This book was written with so much compassion for those who remain that I can’t wait to suggest it to others who need to be reminded that for those of us who remain here after a loved one’s death, life can still be beautiful.

I have watched this woman through out her entire career and I always felt a kindred spirit to her. Hayden not only is hauntingly talented, beautiful, smart and witty but she is also openly honest from the start. Hayden does not want anyone to read this book and judge any person but rather understand how life can be messy, amazing, difficult, dangerous and above all else ours to navigate through. This insight into her private life has contributed to confirm that she is and will always be someone I can relate with.
