At 42% I am finally giving myself permission to quit. I gave it an honest try but this is so mid and the narrative style is insufferable

By virtue of being set almost entirely in one place, the story feels far more static and sort of slower than its predecessor. This is not quite a criticism as I understand it's necessary, but it did take some adjusting to after the epic highs and lows of the first book.
At times I felt the book takes perhaps too much inspiration from stories like the Odyssey but not really in a bad way if you're into that sort of thing. It's just that the first book was so breathtakingly original.
But I had a great time regardless and eagerly await book 3

I absolutely LOVE it when a book rips my very soul into shreds. FUCK. For the longest time YA was falling flat for me because all their struggles seemed completely insulated in a highschool environment. I really couldn't get over how none of it will matter in a few year. This book though? None of that. These are timeless fears and problems that just happen to befall a pair of kids which makes it all the more tragic
