Post from the To Kill a Mockingbird forum
I was so nervous when I started reading this. Usually I really struggle with the language when I read the English originals and not translations. And it reads so easy I’m surprised. After a very long time it’s a book that I can’t put down and I caught myself putting down my phone to read 😱 (The real achievement for my fight with doomscrolling).

An introduction to Historical Fiction, these books are part of the cultural zeitgeist or the 'canon' that many would recognize. Look for more niche titles in later Starter Pack volumes.

Honestly this book was a lecture in codependency. I made my mum read this book before I did and her reaction was “I had to close it when they were being particularly stupid…”
I actually quite enjoyed reading it. Though I think if I was closer to the characters ages I would have enjoyed it more. Looking back this book didn’t really impress me that much and I don’t really get the hype around it. I will be reading more of Sally Rooney’s books. I guess this one just wasn’t for me.

I really enjoyed reading it. Even though there was no character that I would personally identify with. The plot was captivating and I really liked the way the past and present were intertwinig throughout the story. I really enjoyed the female characters as all of them felt rich and truly important to the message of the story. I will definitely buy the rest of the authors books 😁

It took me over a year to finish this book even though I really enjoyed it. English is not my first language so it took a lot of mental work to actually go thorough it because the language is somewhere in the middle between old and modern english.
I loved the characters and how being stereotyped as one thing changed them. It also showed beautifully how exposure, community and the see of belonging can shape young adults.
I honestly enjoyed the book so much and I should have waited for my english to get better before finishing it.
