Solid four stars. I immediately connected to all the characters, and the plot was super engaging. I was invested in the supernatural elements and the familial bonds between all the characters. Enjoyable and bingeable. Highly recommend for those that want are looking for a supernatural comfort read with dynamic characters.

This book got me out of a reading slump. It’s eerily reminiscent of Black Swan but with a coming-of-age story that was absolutely gripping. Its female rage performative transformation was exciting, and thought-provoking. It’s been a while since I’ve read something like this. It was odd, grotesque, relatable, and I couldn’t put it down.

An incredibly thrilling and heartwarming book. This was such a cozy time for me. It had all the thrills of a good mystery while tackling traumatic issues. So so good. Not quite a new favorite, but a character I will remember.

I loved the overall concept and plot of this book. The story was exceptional, but unfortunately I felt there was no sense of urgency with the characters for the majority of the book, so the pacing felt slow moving for such an interesting story. I wanted more umph and fast-paced grit. That’s obviously a me thing, but it was the main reason I put this book down a few times. I really loved the story, but the prolonged tension between the characters felt too slow paced for me that I got taken out of the story too often. With that being said, I appreciated how lush the historical aspects were. The cultural historical landscape and ancestral trauma in this book was what kept me going.
I would recommend this book with the caveat that there are some lulls with the pacing, but I believe the payoff is worth it. I didn’t find it too horrific, but found the supernatural elements to be captivating.

This book really worked for me. I loved the slow-paced gothically mysterious story, and I was easily gripped and enamored with the two main characters. This aligned well with my love for historical fiction and ancestral secrets! I highly recommend this book for this that love a good suspenseful mystery thriller.

I really enjoyed the slow pace prose of this book. I enjoyed getting to know the two main characters and the story was gripping from start to finish. I read this in spring, but this would be the perfect read on a summer vacation or a good beach read.

This book will not be for everyone, but I’m thankful it worked for me. The writing was hilariously witty and engaging. The fantasy and supernatural elements were original and entertaining. The characters were all likeable, and I was drawn to all of them. This was such a unique book and even though the reading experience was quite slow moving it was a very satisfying read.
