I need more people to read this book! It was everything. What Hunger was a satiating piece of fiction! It definitely had me craving Vietnamese food! I was craving some phở tái chín with a bánh mì the whole time I was reading. This was an easily consumable one-sitting horror treat!
The depiction of the immigrant experience was masterful. I was on this journey with Veronica from start to finish. I cheered for Veronica and her family. The way the author built the narrative by slowly & systematically layering an emotional connection to the characters was so good. I was on this the edge of my seat. The ending was so impactful! It was horrifically charming and gruesomely satisfying. It was crazy and I loved it. If you’ve read this, you know what I mean.
I also appreciated the authors inclusion of history and the generational trauma that transpired from those events.

It’s a shame that I thought Elektra was such an unlikable character. The best parts of this book were the perspectives of Clytemestra and Cassandra. I went into this book thinking we’d get an in depth look into Elektra, but alas that really didn’t happen, and her story fell flat for me. The most redeeming aspects of this novel were definitely Clytemnestra and Cassandra’s portrayals. I absolutely love the myths of Clytemnestra so of course I gravitated towards her as a character. I was deeply drawn to Cassandra as I’ve never read anything with her point of view before. Overall, this book was a great read for anyone interested in reading Greek mythology through the female perspective.

What a baddy! I loved this so much. There were so many tragically sad and heartbreaking stories in this. I was immediately drawn to Clytemnestra: her grit, her stubbornness, and her relentless passion.
An amazing retelling that I desperately needed. A beautiful story about the resilience and courage it takes to overcome the worst possible situations. Bravo, Costanza Casati! I look forward to reading more from you!
