I immediately knew this would be an amazing book from the moment it made me cackle out loud! This book has my whole heart. Bookish besties can relate when I say: books have a way of finding you when you need it the most! This was exactly what I needed. This book brought me so much laughter and joy.

If you love the writing style of Fredrik Backman & Matt Haig, I think you’d absolutely adore this book!

This took me forever to read, but I’m glad I read it.

This definitely belongs on the ‘must read list’ for all Dracula enthusiasts. The journey was gothically compelling and hauntingly atmospheric. The writing was superb and I enjoyed everything about it. I thoroughly enjoyed the historical richness that the story brought, and was immediately invested in the plot.

It had some dark moments but it didn’t have the emotional depth that I craved. This was a brilliant book and I highly recommend reading it. I suggest going into this knowing it’s heavy on the history with a slow-paced plot. I will note that the beginning had five star energy but the ladder half of the book felt a little too slow that it lost its suspenseful edge.

Entertaining enough. Fast-paced. Messy. Didn’t mind the ending.

I absolutely loved An American Marriage from Tayari Jones, so I had high expectations going into this second novel. Unfortunately, this was a literary let down for me. I enjoyed experiencing the coming-of-age, everyday life, and growing pains from both of the main characters, but I felt the slow paced plot hindered my reading experience. I kept putting this book down, and I had no sense of desire or urgency to continue it.

I’m a huge historical fiction reader, and thrive when reading literary fiction especially in a historical setting, but I just wasn’t as emotionally invested in the characters as I would’ve liked.

I still highly recommend this book as the writing is amazing and the story is overall a very heartwarming story all while tackling issues like grief, found family, and self-discovery
