Letters from the Ginza Shihodo Stationery Shop
Kenji Ueda
For lovers of Before the Coffee Gets Cold and Days at the Morisaki Bookshop, a new book about the beauty of humble objects, the power of writing, and reconnecting with those you have lost. Write your story, heal your heart . . . Hidden away in a corner of the Ginza neighbourhood is a venerable stationery shop. To venture inside is to find everything your stationery-loving heart desires, from the most delicate paper to fountain pens that fit exactly to the shape of your hand to gorgeously coloured inks. The shop owner intuits your every need, inviting you to take a seat at a small wooden table on the top floor, where you'll find the words flowing, helping you unlock repressed memories, secret longings and your own mysteries. To this shop comes a young company employee, uncertain in his career and needing a connection back to his past; the hostess of an elegant club; the vice-captain of a high-school archery team, an ageing businessman and a formerly homeless sushi chef. With impeccable manners and a warm demeanour, the shop owner helps each of them with more than just their stationery needs.

đŹđ§ This book left a soft mark on me. Witchâs Heart is not a fast-paced fantasy â itâs a quiet, poetic journey through Norse myth, seen from the eyes of a forgotten woman. Angrboda isnât a warrior. Sheâs a survivor, a mother, someone who heals slowly and fiercely.
I loved the atmosphere â earthy, still, and full of quiet power. The writing feels gentle, almost whispered. It invites you to slow down and feel.
But I can see why some readers didnât fully connect. The pacing is slow, there are no chapters (just three long parts), and the mythology isnât always crystal clear. Some might wish for more action or a stronger sense of direction.
Personally, I embraced its softness. It felt like reading an ancient memory, full of love and shadows. Perfect if youâre in the mood for a lyrical, introspective kind of fantasy.

đŹđ§ The Enchanteresses saga truly captivated me. Each volume tells a different story, yet all are connected through powerful themes â magic, family secrets, generational legacy, and the strong bonds between women.
I was especially moved by the depth of the characters, particularly the female figures, who are both powerful and vulnerable. Their journeys are emotional, sometimes dark, but always meaningful.
The writing is fluid and evocative, creating an almost enchanting atmosphere. Some passages struck me with their emotional intensity and subtle beauty. Itâs a story thatâs both sensitive and mysterious â one that lingers long after the final page.
I highly recommend it to anyone who enjoys modern tales of witches, the mystical charm of Brittany and the Brocéliande forest, deep family stories, and poetic, immersive worlds.
